Who we are
Nina and Matthew met in 1997 when they were part of the team who opened Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre on London’s Bankside. A love of the arts and creativity brought them both there where they worked in Communications and Fundraising respectively.

After nurturing a life-long love of horticulture, in 2001 they finally took the plunge. Juggling her day-to-day life as a communications consultant by this time, Nina spent the next three years gaining the professional qualifications she needed to launch the garden design business, aided and abetted by now husband and fellow gardener, Matthew.

Nina and Matthew brought their skills in client services and business management to Nina Baxter Garden Design Ltd., ensuring they get the client brief exactly right, establishing good communications and relationships with clients and contractors alike and making sure the garden build runs smoothly.

Nina has qualifications in Horticulture, Plantsmanship and Garden Design from the Royal Horticultural Society and the English Gardening School.

What we do
We make gardens. Beautiful gardens. Gardens that people love. It’s really as simple as that. We could wax lyrical about form and structure, pergolas and loggias dripping with blossom or the intricate journey we will create around your garden (and Nina will probably do that when she meets you!). But basically we design and create unique gardens, specifically to meet the needs of our clients, which combine design flair with exceptional planting.

We offer full Project Management and Consultation services during the garden build, managing the entire project for you from design through construction. All the sourcing of plants and soft landscaping is carried out by our team. We work alongside trusted landscape contractors for all hard landscaping elements. These include Elitescapes Ltd, another family run business with a wealth of experience, an eye for detail and an extremely high level of finish.

RHS Show planting
Since 2007, we have been involved with planting at the RHS flagship flower shows. For two years in a row we were lucky enough to help Andy Sturgeon plant up his gold medal award winning gardens at the Chelsea Flower Show. We have also worked with Chris Beardshaw at both Chelsea and the Tatton Park Flower Show, where he achieved both gold and the coveted 'Best in Show' title. Since 2012, Nina has headed up Jo Thompson’s Chelsea Flower Show planting team.

Land Girl, Nina’s alter-ego
In 2011, having felt frustrated for years at the lack of practical, stylish gardening clothes for women, Nina designed and brought out her own range – Land Girl. Hard-wearing, fitted for the female form and with plenty of useful features, Nina loves and practically lives in her Land Girl dungarees! see, www.land-girl.com

‘Team Baxter’
Matthew’s parents, Charlotte and Peter Baxter, also run a successful garden design practice in East Anglia and often work with us on projects. Finally we take inspiration from Matthew's beautiful and talented sister, Lucy, who was a wonderful gardener and an integral part of ‘Team Baxter’, working on RHS show gardens as well as many of Nina’s own designs. Lucy sadly died in 2009, at the young age of 31. She is missed and loved with all our hearts.
